| (1951) Pfc. Joseph DiNardo has been declared missing in action
since Dec. 2, 1950, but the War Department gave no further details. The Chosin Reservoir campaign occurred from late November to early December 1950. The MIA declaration has confused his family because in his last letter, early in November, he told his aunt, Mrs. Joseph Franciose of Passaic Ave., that he was then in a hospital without telling where or how he had been injured. Pfc. DiNardo was born in Nutley, and attended Junior High School. He left school in 1947 to enter the Army. He was sent to Japan in 1949 and was with the first U.S. troops to take part in the fighting in Korea. His father, Michael DiNardo, is dead, and his mother and sister have left Nutley for Scranton, Pa. Before joining the Army, Joseph DiNardo lived with his grandmother , Mrs. Grace Salvatril, and his aunt on Passaic Avenue. Corporal Di Nardo was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on December 2, 1950. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. Corporal Di Nardo was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
