(March 1951) Private John F. Van Der Linde, formerly of Nutley,
was killed in action in Korea on March 15, while serving with the Medical Corps, Second
Infantry Division.
Private Vander Linde was a member of the 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on March 15, 1951. Van Der Linde would have been 19 years old in July. He lived most of his life in Nutley, and attended Nutley schools. Having served in Korea since mid-February, Van Der Linde was first an infantryman and then a corpsman. He enlisted in the Army shortly after his 17th birthday in 1949, trained at Fort Dix and Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He left for overseas service from Camp Stoneman, Calif. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Van Der Linde, and a sister Betty. He is a nephew of Nutley Patrolman Frank A. Conroy, of Bloomfield Avenue.
