(October 12, 1951) -- M/Sgt. John C. McConnell
of Spruce Street, recruiting sergeant for the U.S. Army at the Newark post
office building, died suddenly Tuesday night at his home after a heart
attack. He was 43 years old. M/Sgt. McConnell was buried yesterday afternoon with full military honors. Services were conducted by Stanton Funeral Home by Rev. D. Goodwin Webster, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Livingston. Interment was in East Ridgelawn Cemetery. M/Sgt. McConnell was born in Palmyra. He enlisted in the Army over 24 years ago and had been stationed at Fort Monmouth and later was transferred to Camp Crowder, Md. During World War II, he was overseas for two years in the European Theater of operations. He was recruiting officer for this area. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marie Werner McConnell; his mother, Mrs. Anna E. McConnell; two sisters, Miss Anna and Mrs. Dorothy Hardy.
