'60 Years Ago'

This Memorial Day, let us not forget these 16 Nutley sons, brothers and fathers who paid the ultimate price for our freedom 60 years ago in 1945:

Frederick Kurz was KIA in Germany on Jan. 16

Frank Burak, of Homer Avenue, was KIA in Germany on Feb. 2.

Norman Bell, of Brookline Avenue, was KIA at Iwo Jima on Feb. 20.

Emil Liloia, of Passaic Avenue, was KIA on Iwo Jima on March 1.

Arthur Abbott, of Chestnut Street, was KIA on Iwo Jima on March 4.

Vincent Fields, of Carteret Place, was was KIA on Iwo Jima on March 6.

Howard Harle, died in Europe on March 6.

Walter Kotwica, of Laura Avenue, was KIA in Germany on April 17.

Russell Wester, of Prospect Street, was KIA in the Netherlands on April 11.

Gilbert Davies was KIA in Italy on April 17.

Frank Garruto, of Harrison Street, was KIA in the European theatre on April 7.

Lothrop Ellis, of Mountainview Avenue, was killed at Salina, Kan., on July 17.

Robert Gray, of Mapes Avenue, a prisoner of war of the Germans, was believed killed April 19 near Stalag 1X-B at Bad Orb, Germany.

John Windheim, of Vreeland Avenue, was killed at Corpus Christi, Texas, on Sept. 18.

William frost died in Atlanta, Ga., on Nov. 8.

Thomas Smith, of Freeman Place, was killed en route home from the South Pacific on Nov. 30.

Let us in Nutley forget none of the 92 who died in WWII, the 17 who died in WW1, the 12 who died in the Korean war era, the 9 who died in Vietnam, or the men who died in service during peace time.
